Eating Italy is expanding its portfolio further by launching a new food tour in Florence, Tuscany. Taking visitors through the neighbourhood of Oltrano, the Florentine equivalent of Paris’ left bank, the tour commences this week.
“We are really proud to be launching in our second Italian city after Rome, and our fifth city in Europe,” says Kenny Dunn, Managing Director of Eating Europe Tours, the parent company of Eating Italy. “Our company has seen tremendous growth in the past five years from a single tour in a single city to eight food tours in four cities across Europe today. Florence has such a strong culinary influence that we felt it was the next logical step in our expansion in Italy.”
On the “Other side of Florence Food Tour”, guests will taste what makes the city’s cuisine so special and unique within Italy, and meet the families who have been serving up the foodie treasures locals love for generations. Through numerous food and wine tastings at eight authentic stops, participants will learn how to make Italian cantucci (cookies), sample the local salami, and experience the neighbourhood’s Bohemian vibe – full of students, artists and lively culture. A glass of Tuscany’s famous wine, Chianti, is also part of the tour as well as one of Italy’s most famous desserts, the gelato. The tours run Monday to Saturday, 10am to 2pm, €84 adults, €72 adolescent, €50 children.
The company was founded in Rome in 2011 by American native, Kenny Dunn. His informal culinary strolls with friends and family became the Taste of Testaccio Food Tour focusing on real food, real people and real neighbourhoods. In 2013 another two tours in Rome were added, so was the first London Food Tour in the city’s hip East End. Since then, Eating Europe Tours has successfully launched in Amsterdam and Prague. The company’s mission is to leave travellers with an unparalleled, non-touristy, food-related experience in undiscovered neighbourhoods across Europe.
