Editor-in-Chief Vivian Van Dijk and Adem Lolovic enjoyed a wonderful night at the UKTI x Spindle Present: The GREAT British Style Experience.
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Spindle were pleased to welcome over 300 buyers, press, creatives and key influencers to Soho House last week to celebrate the best of emerging UK fashion talent, including British brands Haeckels, Sarah Hellen, Clara Martin, Tom Smarte, STORY mfg, Eye Respect, Marcus. De and La Menta were in New York showing at Liberty Fairs as part of a mission by UKTI to help grow their businesses abroad.
Guests including buyers from key stores such as Barney’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Net-a-Porter and Stanley Korshak as well as brands including Chanel, Burberry, Ben Sherman and Orlebar Brown had the opportunity to talk to the designers in person about their products, with Soho House staff dressed in Clara Martin t-shirts, Eye Respect Eyewear and Tom Smarte hats. After the event, guests danced the night away to music from London’s own Livin’ Proof DJs, who brought the sounds of Dalston to Manhattan.
Allon Zloof of Tom Smarte said "The event was superb. The energy in the room was electric with a fantastic mix of British, American and international brands, with plenty of discussions regarding collaborations. There was also great interest from the press with publications such as GQ who were keen to learn more about the brands. It was fantastically organised by Spindle and UKTI who did an incredible job.”
With support from UKTI London, many of these brands are showing in New York for the first time. Spindle’s ethos of unravelling creativity and promoting emerging UK talent around the globe fits in perfectly with UKTI’s mission to support UK businesses expansion into International markets.
Bowman, International Trade Advisor for the Fashion Sector, at UKTI London and leader of this Mission, said: “We are thrilled with the turn out and support for the Soho House event, particularly considering the treacherous snow. The feedback from the designers and guests has been really positive, many have already acquired new business from the Liberty show in markets such as the US and Japan and we look forward to supporting them in their ongoing expansion.” Heather Falconer, Director, Spindle, said: “We’re excited to be able to help these amazing British designers grow their businesses and we’reglad we were able to help them connect with key industry figures in the US.”
