EYES IN™ Magazine Featured Creator Julien Fournié unleashed his explosive new collection at Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris. EYES IN™ Magazine Editor-In-Chief Vivian Van Dijk covered live as the showroom erupted with applause as Julien Fournié's latest masterpieces were unveiled on the runway.
Although sketching has been a passion since his early years. fashion design was chosen by Julien Fournié only after a first academic orientation in the field of medical studies. Selected as one of the talents who form the ESAA Duperré students, he then preferred the technical rigor of the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Creativity? He has learnt it at the side of the biggest names in Haute Couture by multiplying internships inside prestigious Paris-based fashion houses during his studies, including at Christian Dior, where he has met Jean Mouclier, who taught him to sketch jewelry, but also at Givenchy (when Alexander McQueen was Creative Director), Nina Ricci and Céline, among other names.
In 2000, at his graduation runway show, he received the Moët et Chandon Award for best accessory at Paris Fashion Awards. While he had just come into internship at Céline, Jean Paul Gaultier hired him as an assistant in his Haute Couture studio. In charge of researching materials and embroidery, he also collaborated in designing some Madonna stage costumes for her “World Tour”. Identified as a budding talent by another great name of fashion, Claude Montana, he then collaborated with this master of cut and garment architecture. In 2003, while he was working as a designer at Montana Creations, Julien Fournié was recruited by Torrente Haute Couture as Creative Director for ready-to-wear lines.
A few days before his first show for the house based on the Rond-Point des Champs Elysées, he was appointed Creative Director for the entire brand, including Haute Couture. Julien Fournié then wanted to discover the world and emerging countries. For this, he was hired by the LG Fashion group, in South Korea, to be the Creative Director of several brands. In Seoul, he met another fashion ecosystem, directed to the future. Back in Paris, Ramosport, the mythical home of the “travel coat” made him its new Creative Director. He then returned to accessories as a designer at Charles Jourdan. After the closing of these houses, which were led by financiers with little specific knowledge for the fashion markets, Julien Fournié decided to found, in 2009, his eponymous house around the spirit of Parisian Couture, its unparalleled craftsmanship and constant need for innovation.
Founded in 2009 by the designer of the same name, the house of Julien Fournié is centered around what its designer calls his “laboratory”: Parisian Couture. It also offers, since 2014, capsule collections of ready-to-wear. The history of the house is told over the collections which are unveiled in Paris in January and July each year, during Haute Couture Fashion Week. Thus “First Models” in June 2009 has sketched the emerging codes by Julien Fournié: “window backs“, « Art Déco” lace, noble fabrics (chiffon, crepe or silk organza …) are mixed with more raw and innovative materials. This collection will make him the winner of the Grand Prize Prize for Creativity by the City of Paris in January 2010. In january 2011, three collections after his debut, Julien Fournié was showing for the first time under his name in the official calendar of Haute Couture. The club of the Parisian couturiers has voted to include him as a “guest member”. With this new title, he showcased his next collection entitled “First Colors” only on black female models. A first at paris Haute Couture!
In 2011 also, Julien Fournié created with Dassault Systèmes, Fashion Lab, a technology incubator at the crossroads of the fashion world and 3D design, convinced that the digital software can propel fashion to new heights. Since that day, both partners have been exploring and developing together several incubation projects for clothing, footwear, accessories as well as working together to optimize the sourcing of materials and to monitor the retailing process.
Thanks to its success in Couture, the house is also offering, with the presentation of the «First Impulse” collection, in July 2014, a capsule collection of ready-to-wear. Available at Printemps Haussmann in the Le Soir by Maria Luisa corner since January 2015, the Julien Fournié womenswear is now available to an international selection of luxury retailers. The Julien Fournié house is also prsenting them its footwear collections. Developed thanks to digital 3D solutions by Fashionlab, theses shoes also benefit from the hand of a French and European manufacturer. Over the seasons, the Parisian couture house has been supported by many personalities including, since its beginnings, Madame Jacqueline, the house’s head seamstress, Nicolas Degennes, makeup artist, Jean Paul Cauvin, a former fashion writer who has watched over the staging and casting iof the Julien Fournié shows from the beginning, even before he became the C.O.O. of Julien Fournié SAS, in 2013, Cécile Kosmalski, president of ASC Stylcouture, ready-to-wear manufacturer “Made in France” Maria Luisa Poumaillou, the legendary buyer and Fashion Editor of Printemps department store, fastening solutions by YKK (since 2011) as well as Elena Lavagni Stephen Low and the entire Neville London- based hair Salon, Sophie Hallette, and many more craftsmen and industry pundits…
Since its inception, the house of Julien Fournié also had the honor of being invited to show its collections abroad at prestigious events in order to showcase its style to global customers in their home country. Three times, has Julien Fournié shiown in Singapore on the runway of Fidé Fashion Weeks. He has also presentd presented his “First Retrospective” in the Hall of Honour of the City Hall of Stockholm in November 2012… And should, in the course of coming months show on two different continents.
