Marimekko unveiled their Fall / Winter 2016 ready-to-wear collection, only the second under the direction of Creative Director Anna Teurnell, during Paris Fashion Week.
“The Fall / Winter 2016 collection is an ode to originality and empowered women. Marimekko is about appreciating the imperfection and personality – being true to oneself. We design products for the everyday lives of real women, to inspire them to dress for themselves and live their lives as they choose. The collection features surprising juxtapositions, asymmetric silhouettes and innovative ideas for a fall and winter wardrobe, incorporating Marimekko’s trademark prints and interesting color,” says Anna Teurnell, Marimekko Creative Director. At Paris Fashion Week, Marimekko tears down walls between fashion and design by incorporating elements from its home collection in the space. Adds Teurnell, “At Marimekko fashion and design have always been closely connected and approached from a lifestyle perspective. We are proud of our heritage and the fact that Marimekko has played a significant part in the formation of Finnish design thinking, renowned for its inclusivity and functionality.”
Marimekko is a design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. When the company was founded in 1951, its unconventional designs transformed the tradition of textile printing and clothing in Finland.
