AUTUMN / WINTER 2014-2015
The sewing fashion capital welcomed Syrian-born designer Rami Al Ali once again as he returned to Paris for his sixth season to present his Autumn / Winter 2014/15 collection. Playing host to exclusive crowd of fashion's top tier year, Al Ali not only revealed his much-anticipated sewing creations, transfixing audiences with his tribute to the mysteries of the hidden rainforest, goal is also a new arrival - the historic Museum of Decorative Arts.
Shrouded in enigma, an exquisite interplay between luxurious fabrics and deliberate detailing stood center stage, as Al Ali's twenty-piece collection was unearthed. Depth emoted life as a dewy range of forest greens, beige and gold starkly juxtaposed with powerful primary hues to create a uniform line rich in complexity. The efflorescence of nature in its simplest form, the collection serenely encapsulated eternal transformation.
Perspective added to the allure, evoking illusory visions; a collection meant to be consumed from varied angles yet producing a singular emotion - wonderment. Silhouettes captured curves and lines, skimming along the body fluidly. The classic A-line received a modern re-working, with cropped edges of voluminous multi-layered skirts Offering momentary glimpses of nature's inner workings. Intricate embroidery and three-dimensional weaving allowed passageway into the rainforest canopy's innermost - the hidden depth that lies beneath the surface.
Fabrics added opulence to the untamed and wild Inhabitants of Al Ali's natural world, as a conscious blend of lace, silk organza, gazar, taffeta and chiffon blade formed a perfect base for the designer's signature of luxurious finishes. Matte sequins and crystals elaborately embellished a color, all which paid homage to pallet drama, vibrancy and exoticism. Royal blue and vivid yellow, with jewel tones of ruby, emerald and purple, the newest collection thoughtfully explored the connection between the intensity of the jungle with its idyllic aspirations.
Cementing that is sewing craft, Rami Al Ali's collection AW2014/15 brings innovation to the organic, elevating his art to higher levels.
Born in Deir ez-Zor, Syria, Rami Al Ali's love of refined aesthetics began at an early age. Being the only boy of five children, Al Ali took an early interest in style and fashion, with his curiosity of the arts eventually leading him to Syria's capital city, Damascus, where In 1991, Al Ali joined the College of Fine Arts to study Visual Communications. Inspired by the institute's freedom of expression, Al Ali's decision to design and produce a fashion show for his final graduation project astounded his professors, who were impressed at his portrayal of fine arts through fashion.
Upon graduation in 1995, Al Ali traveled to the United Arab Emirates to gain valuable international experience within the prestigious fashion houses. He quickly gained respect from the industry, resulting in an immediate, loyal client base, which ultimately led to the creation of the Rami Al Ali label in the year 2000. Through growing recognition of his brand, Al Ali was selected to participate in many events alongside key international designers, including the 2006 Asian Olympic Games in Qatar and Swarovski's beautiful coffee table book, UNBRIDALED. A number of inspiring shows around the Gulf led to his designs occupying the covers of leading fashion magazines and red carpet celebrations.
Al Ali's European breakthrough came in 2009, when his Spring/Summer couture collection graced the runway at Rome's AltaRoma couture week, and was the first of six consecutive shows to take place during this prestigious Fashion Week. His success was further cemented by being named as one of the top 50 most influential Arabs by The Middle East Magazine. Growing in confidence and status, Al Ali's designs were sought after by celebrities and socialites alike, adorning the likes of Natasha Bedingfield, Vanessa Mae, Ivana Trump, Youssra, Julie Bowen and Googoosh, amongst many others.
In January 2012, Ali Ali debuted during the Couture Fashion Week in Paris, showcasing his Spring/Summer 2012 collection amongst the crème de la crème of the fashion world. Now on his third consecutive season in Paris, Al Ali's transition from daydreamer to global trendsetter is complete.
