Zang Toi: Uncompromising Glamor at MBFW

Editor-in-Chief Vivian Van Dijk is LIVE at MBFW and reviewed the Zang Toi Fashion Week Show:

"Zang Toi is showing blue and black as his main colors for his SS 2014 collection. A daring choice and it shows indeed that Zang Toi has made black the new white for the upcoming summer. His dresses are stunning with the wide skirts, trains, and dramatic capes attached.

"With his designs Zang Toi has sculpted the renaissance woman of the modern era. The gorgeous fabrics only add to this feeling of renewal, exuberant energy and celebration of femininity. The use of this continuous color combination of black and light blue give the designs on top of that a mysterious look too.

"Design shapes with a wink to the past, but with a color combination of the future. Zang Toi's strength of design shows that there is not future without history and no present without integrating those values in the 'now' area of design. Works of art have been created."

More About Zang Toi

Recently conferred the title ‘Datuk’ by the King of Malaysia – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Zang Toi was born and raised in a small village in Kelantan, the youngest of seven children of a grocer. After leaving his native Malaysia at the age of eighteen, Zang arrived in New York and at the age of 20, began his studies at Parsons School of Design. In August 1989, he opened his atelier and soon after, Zang was awarded the 1990 Mouton Cadet Young Designer of the Year award which recognizes the top, young U.S. designer of the year. In a Newsday article published in 1991, Frank de Car enthusiastically noted of the Malaysian-born designer and his success, “If anyone is THE NEXT BIG THING, it’s him.” (Newsday, New York, 29 April 1991)

Since then, Zang has captured the attention of the world’s fashion elite and continues to be characterized by his precocious aptitude and astute business acumen. Zang continues to have a strong presence in the international fashion scene. Having dressed the likes of Sharon Stone, Gong Li, Eva Longoria, Fergie of the Black Eye Peas, Heather Graham, Devon Aoki, Farrah Fawcett, Patti LaBelle, Ivana Trump, and Melinda Gates, Zang Toi is now considered an established name in the world of Haute Fashion. His timeless and uncompromising designs pamper women with elegance and glamor - inspired by his love of travel and fine living.
