Banksy: Street Artist Supreme
Street Art started in 1960 in the streets of New York. The graffiti of those days found its way into the galleries and museums of now. These days, street art is very fashionable and large museums in world cities such as London (Tate Modern) and Paris (Grand Palais) and multinationals such as Toyota have already been involved in street art as exhibition or sponsor.
Since the year 2000, it seems that the center of street art has shifted from New York to London and Paris.
The biggest star of street art in England is the anonymous ‘Street Artist Banksy’ from Bristol. Banksy has left a lot of street art in Barcelona, Paris, New York and Palestine as well. In November 2003 one of his earliest works was auctioned for a total of 800 pounds. Last year a show ‘Banksy versus Bristol Museum’ lured more than 300 000 visitors.
Artists such as Christina Aguilera and Angelina Jolie have started collecting Banksy’s work, this lead to extra media hype and popularity for Banksy. In 2006 a work of Banksy, The Rude Lord, was sold for 270 000 pounds. In 2008 a work of Banksy was sold for 1.7 million pounds.
Banksy prints have become highly sought-after and are extremely difficult to find. Below are a selection of rare Banksy prints and posters from our limited editions collection.
