Louis Vuitton Creating its First Perfume
Luxury leather goods maker and fashion brand Louis Vuitton are gearing up to create its own fragrance after reportedly acquiring the services of third-generation perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, who is thought to be starting work at the company in January 2012 with a view to entering the scent market.
Jacques has worked on popular fragrances, such as L'Eau d'Issey, Jean Paul Gaultier Classic, Dior Addict, Poeme by Lancome, Stella by Stella McCartney and Cinema by Yves Saint Laurent. He was awarded the Prix François Coty Parfumeur accolade in 2004.
The French brand's creative director Marc Jacobs has long expressed a wish for the company to enter the fragrance market and in June 2011 he hinted the fashion house is "working on" a perfume.
Jacques says, "There's no Vuitton Beaute. At this moment, there is no fragrance although we're working on that." He entered the Fragrance Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2009 after the success of his eponymous brand's family of fragrances, including Lola, Bang and Daisy.
The scent master is also rumored to be using “almost extinct,” ultra-exclusive flowers from France in its development. This will be the debut perfume by the house of Louis Vuitton, although the LVMH luxury group owns several fragrance brands including Guerlain, Kenzo and Dior.
Apparently, Vuitton created a handful of commercial perfumes in the 1920s, but the brand has been reticent to enter into the crowded fragrance field in its modern incarnation. Just can’t wait for more details of this exciting project to emerge.
