FILMSONARTISTS HOSTS ART EXHIBITION, DOCUMENTARY SCREENING AND TOY DRIVE FOR HAITI HOLIDAY BENEFIT
100% of Proceeds to Rebuild Maranatha Orphanage and Primary School
New York - FilmsonArtists are proud to present “I am Haiti”, a benefit exhibition to help rebuild the Maranatha Orphanage and Primary School in Port Au Prince, Haiti. The show, which features art created by the Haitian students of the devastated school, debuted Dec 2 at FilmsOnArtists Gallery, located at 526 West 26 Street, 4th floor. The works will be open to the public to January 15, 2011. All proceeds go to the Haiti Relief Organization Life For The World, who created Maranatha School and Orphanage in 2002. There will be a concurrent exhibition at Pepe Giallo restaurant 253 10th Ave, where a sample of 15 paintings will be displayed for the holiday season encouraging holiday diners to visit the exhibition.
FilmsOnArtists director Kevin O’Hanlon and Haitian-born artist Richard Laurent traveled to Haiti along with 6 volunteers equipped with 200 canvasses, paints and brushes. Over the course of a week, they spent time with the young students of the Maranatha Orphanage and Primary School, where they shared stories, lifted spirits, and painted. These were the childrens first ever paintings. FilmsOnArtists created a short documentary which will be screened during the exhibition. The beautiful and inspiring works will be for sale at Pepe Giallo Restaurant and at FilmsOnArtists Gallery, where 100% of the proceeds will go to rebuilding the school. Telling the story of each piece, every painting will be exhibited alongside a portrait of its creator.
FilmsOnArtists Director Kevin OHanlon will travel with Life For The World members to distribute toys and funds.
